Laguna de Bay, a large freshwater lake with 236km of shoreline, is close to the Marikina Valley and a drainage site for the river during the rainy season. It is also home to a large fishing community whose traditional livelihood depends on its good health. As well as excess river water, waste from industrial activities also washes downstream, polluting the lake and affecting its fish stock.
