Residents of Wawa in the Sierra Madre Mountains are the first to notice when the river starts to rise. These women, moved by the devastating effects of Typhoon Ketsana in 2009, pledged to monitor their stretch of the river and help warn vulnerable communities downstream (via radio and text message) when flooding is due.
